I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem as me ill explain and if anyone has any ideas let me know.

lately its been getting worse when i pull away from a stop like at lights or in traffic nearly every time the car nearly stalls and often does. For it not to stall i have to ride the clutch out and rev it really high. it makes a sound as though its sputtering if that makes any sense, anyway i was talking to a mate and he said the carby is probably really dirty a12 120y. If anyone has any ideas let me know and whats involved with cleaning out the carby?

Cheers

Best way to clean out carby is to take the top off and put compressed air through all of the jet and hoses.

get yourself a can of Carby Cleaner, take off the air filter, rev the car high and empty 1/3 to 1/2 of a can down the throat of your carb - see if that helps. should remove a bit of the carbon and garbage build-up.

I'l go with Steve on this one, at least check the points for dwell angle, or point gap, & if this is off, then adjust or replace them, then set the timing. You might as well check & regap [or replace] the plugs while you're at it.

If you still have problems, thats when you service the carb as per the manual. A dose of fuel system cleaner won't do it any harm either.

Along with dodgeman's advise, also while you're at it, make sure the advance mechanism isn't siezed or sticking.

try backfring the carby first to dislodge any crap blcking the jests. swapp the #2 and #3 ignition leads, rev twice quicky with one arm on the accelerator cable and your shoulder blocking your ear. then swap leads back and see if it improves after driving. if not its points.

Don't neglect to vacuum check the advance unit, so you know it doesn't leak
