Did anyone else brave the elements on Sunday & go to Sandown for the Marque sports sprints.

I was sorting out a 1600 for a customer and helping Coops with the blue beast.

The 1200 put in an excellent performance against larger/more-powerful opposition including equaling the lap times of a Z18 turbo bluebird and a TRD developed Twin cam Corolla who couldnt believe it was pushrod 1400!!!!

A pair of Autodelta (Alfa Nismo equivalent) powered Alfasuds had demoralised the under 1500 class, due to their dominationl. Entries to the capacity class had dropped as a result of their domination.
These very quick, very expensive (Motec M48 injected) cars suddenly fond a new challenger that came in and split the top pair!

Coop's got to within 0.5 sec's a lap of the faster car, (driving the pants of the 1200).

The 1200 still has the 3.9 stock diff (not even welded) and has yet to hit the dyno for fine tuning. A credit to Coops driving skill was the consistent 100 second times it produced.

Look out when he gets the H145 LSD and later the 4.111 alloy carrier H165

Does this mean that dinosour Datsun technology [pushrods] is seriously worying the big bucks high tech European machinery?
Very impressive & congratulations to all concerned, you make us all proud. I guess once it is moved up from street specs, it will really start to get serious.

Chris,
It actually managed to leave a lot of different more exotic machinery .

Its good to see them come over and see whats in the beast................ then the look when they see its still a pushrod 1400 (priceless !)

Lurch, Coops has entered for the twilight meet.

GO THE DATTO'S

Hi Errol,
Can you elaborate a little bit more about whats been done to this little beast, in particular the motor- it sounds like a very fast 1200.
Cheers
Dave

GO THE DATTO'S
That's gotta be worth the price of admission just by itself.
GO THE DATTO

EDIT. I just saw the pictures on the Datrats site & realised that this car still wears number plates, so it really IS street spec. I also noted that it is down on power compared to some others, so this reinforces the fact that a proper balance of power, braking & handling can win out over high power alone. Of course all of this is worth nothing without a good man at the wheel.
Congratulations once again.
