Has anybody else encountered this after dialing in a cam?

I've been Building my new motor for ages now. Went to put in the dizzy yesterday, and it seems to be quite advanced.
Could this be due to the fact that the regrind has moved the postiion of the opening ramp, (which in turn I have repositioned by dialing the cam) but the dizzy gear on the cam has not moved . ( so in effect by moving the camshaft the spark has also been advanced)
basicly at tdc the vacuum diaphram is hitting the block, before I can retard it far enough for the points to close.
I will be dispensing with the vac advance diaphram, but if I wasn't, would it be ncessary to reposition the dizzy gear?

on an A series?
the dissy is driven off a helical gear. Are you sure its not just a matter of being a tooth out? If its between a one tooth gap, can't you adjust the baseplate on those A series distributors?

Pull the dissy, flip it over, as Harry said, there will be an 8mm nut that will allow more adjustment to the base plate.

Watch the rotor button to Dissy cap orientation when the points open. You don't want to encourage cross-firing.
