Cracked Windscreen Roadworthiness

Hi
I've read somewhere that you can have a crack on your windscreen if its not blocking the drivers vision and if its under a certain length and layer of the laminate.
The crack is 150mm in length is it repairable? cos its for my N320 Ute and its a bit hard to get a hold of one.

I had a crack repaired on my old boxster which was about 4.5inches long with no dramas. I just got the dealership to handle it, but from memory I think the repairer was called 'Windscreen Repairs Australia', however they may only be a sydney service.

And I heard in NSW its not illegal untill is 150 mm. ????

I had to get the windscreen in my 720 replaced because it had a crack about 6cm long in the drivers' top corner. It went from the top edge to the side edge in a small arch.
It wasnt visible from inside the car.

surely you can still get windscreens from somewhere... My dad got one for his '68 Nissan Caball recently, they're pretty rare.

I think they're still avaliable from nissan for 1200's for $250 or so...

hehe, just reminded me of the time my mate was driving back from gerlaton (400-450km's north of perth) and a truck flicked up a rock, smashing his windscreen. Didn't just smash, it turned white so it was impossible to see through. He would have kicked it out and driven home without one except for the fact that it was raining. So he starts driving off with his head out the window, bit of tape of the windscreen to hold it up. 50km's down the road, it falls in...

rather than get his interior wet, he found a heap of sticks and jammed them in between the sunvisor and where the bottom of the windscreen used to be. Then wrapped a tarp around it holding it in with the doors. He managed to travel the remaining 300km's home like that, mostly dry, except for his face, and a bit of the drivers seat

I called O'Briens and they said they can fix upto 350mm crack as long as its not blocking the driver's view
