Hi everyone.

I did some research on this site and found a lot of interesting mods that can be done. I just got my car back from the welders.. yippy and now i can start thinking of Engine mods. Oh ya, Its a 120Y (B310) with an A12 in it

I dont want to change the engine yet. The objective of this car is to learn more about automotives. Most of the work Im gonna do by myself with the guidence of my dad.

I want to make a nice street car thats a daily driver but also has some grunt. Should have good low end torque and not necessarily a hi-rev-er. I think if it can make 6K easily, that should do.

Here are a list of stuff I plan to do. All the work will lead to the final stage which would be to turbocharge the car. ( I hope) The mods will take place slowly one at a time.

1. Cylinder head.
I read that a A14 cylinder would bolt right ON. Would this be better then porting out the current head? If I have to port it, how Big should I go? What about compression ratio? Having a A14 head would increase of decrease it? What about valve springs, What kinda springs would be stiff enough.

2. Intake/Carb
Would webers and SU's be the best way to go. I was thinking of a single 32/36. What do you guys recommend.

3. Exhaust.
An extractor and I tought of having 2 seperate pipes. 1 for each 2 cylinders. Has anyone done this?? I know it sounds wierd.
What would be a recommendable size. 1.75?

4. Ignition
The car already has a electronic distributor in it. Will the CDI make a bigger difference?

5. Turbocharging. (Still thinking wether to go forced induction)
A draw thru system. A TD25 ( is that right?) plus water injection without internal mods. Is it safe to rum 0.6 Bar? (about 10psi) or do I need to reduce compression? Do I have to mod the distributor's advance system?

Thanks in advance. Please feel free to give me more ideas on what can be done :) .

Sounds good to me. Just bolt the A14 (oval port) head on. Don't bother to port it, it is plenty big already for an A12.

Compression? What country are you in? Aussie heads are high compression I think, but USA heads are lower.

Go with the 32/36 carb to start with if you can find one inexpensive. Or if you want to go new, use a single weber sidedraft, about 50% more expensive than a new 32/36, but more performance (but with extra cost of getting an intake manifold).

Get standard extractors and a 1.75 inch exhaust.

Don't bother with CDI.

Don't try the forced induction yet. See how your tasks are completed with the above. You can add turbo or supercharger later, using the above stuff (although 2" exhaust would be better, maybe start with that).

Thanks for the reply ddgonzal.

Im in Malaysia. So im not too sure about the compression but I asume its the same as the Aussie ones. A14's are hard to come by, But im still looking for a head. Lets say I cant find one, Should I port the A12 head to the A14's size??

I was loking at the whole intake and exhaust design. they are bolted together in teh middle, where there's a kind of 'dish' in the intake. If i change the extractor, Would it affect it, by not supplying enough heat to vapourise the fuel. Was just thinking of this. but i guess its ok right.

CDI wont make must difference with electronic ignition is it?

Im with your advice on the turbo part. Thats a long term plan.

Thanks again for the info ddgonzal

Oh yea, what do you guys think of the twin exhaust Idea? will it degrade performance.

The idea is to use an extractor. 4 - 2 -1. At the point where its 4 -2, atach a pipe to each. I know its wierd, but just wondering. hehe :)

if you wanted dual exhausts, each run would only be like 1"
it's probably not going to help any.

The 4 -2 - 1 header is pretty standard fare. In the US Flowmaster makes a collector like this for headers (our peculiar word for extractors). I wouldn't go any larger than 1.5" on the primary tube (between the exhaust port and the collector) and then it steps up to a 2.5" outlet. If the heads there are anything like the ones here in the US you won't be able to achieve the same size ports with an A12 head as an A14 head has. Once you find an A14 head have it done the best you can by your machinist, he'll know the type of things to do. Good luck and have fun.
