Nope - the 1000 doesn't even have strut towers!

Width to a point yes
Length I think the 1200 is longer
But firewall mods aren't that hard to do to get the engine setback

Depends what engine your trying to stuff in there
Don't want anything too heavy

The engine bay in a 1000 has more available width as it doesn't use pogo stick suspension, so there are no suspension towers to take up room in there, but it is not as deep from crossmember to the underside of the bonnet.

The air cleaner of a stock 1200 engine will rub on the underside of a 1000 bonnet.
The length is pretty similar to a 1200 though.

If you are contemplating something with overhead cams, remember that these engines can be a bit tall. Measure thrice to avoid un-necessary expendature & lots of quiet sobbing.

The 1200 has more room up top but lower down the transverse leaf gets in the way and it becomes skinny.

Hemi? Sounds like a Chrysler wannabee.
I have only ever heard this term used in relation to that companies all alloy V8 design from the Century series of cars & these were a pushrod design, inspired by [but not copied from] the 1953 Dodge hemi.

What cars used these 1.8 Hemi engines? I'm guessing that it's a 4 valve DOHC 4cyl design but I'm not too well versed in these brand X engines.
