Ive replaced the radiator (just another stocky), thermostat, water pump, got the head machined, new head gasket and the thing still runs hot. Gets hot quick. ie500m from dead cold and the thermostat is wide open and the water temp is at operating range. The faster i got the hotter it gets and it wont cool down easily. 10min idle and its still farking hot. Thermo fan blasting away.(yes pushing right way)

Apart from that enigne is running as good as ever. And although its a stock gauge and could be faulty. THe water is fricking hot. Boiling when the cap comes off.

never never ever been a problem especially in cold night time weather. Radiator doesnt explain why the water in the blocks heating up so quick before the thermostats open anyhow

Have you ever flushed the block freak? When i did welsch plugs in my L16 there was so much crap in the water jackets that was too big just to be flushed out, big pieces of rust the size of 50c or bigger came out.

Also how hot does it get, halfway or more? does it stop getting hotter or continue to climb the longer you drive?

You say that you replaced the radiator, but was it a good serviceable one? I discovered the true condition of my 1200 one back when we bought it by removing it first, then holding my hand over the bottom fitting & filling it with water. When I removed my hand from the fitting, I expected a good rush of water from it, but it sort of came out in more of a dribble than a rush. Unblocked tubes will allow it to drain real fast, but with blocked tubes, .......

Removal of the top tank revealed the horrible truth & a new core fixed all. Now my only recent problem with it was overcooling, which was fixed with another thermostat.

block was acid dipped when rebuilt about 18months ago and yes the radiator was in good servicable condition not so long ago when used on the other sedan. Radiator does not explain why it heats up so quick anyway. Before the thermo stat has even opened

What happens if you start it up from cold and let it idle for say 10 minutes?
You'd want this sorted pretty quick, summers not far away!

Thermostats not in the wrong way slightly blocking thermostat housing? Have you got coolant or water in there? What about mix and timing too much spark and not enough fuel?? Its a longshot i know but worth the question!

Have you checked for flow as the engine heats up? i.e. leave the radiator cap off, rev the engine and look for flow from the thermostat housing.

The other thing is water pump pulleys- I ahve an a15 with an a12 water pump. not good cos the a12 water pump has a larger pulley than the A15 so it turns slower.... But the shaft length is different so if you just change the pulleys over or the offset is wrong and the belts would not line up.

I have had some overheating problems with it but not like what you describe.
