am i able to swap a ute crossmember into a sedan so i can drop an A14 or A15 straight in without any welding involved

yes, so long as it is from a later ute (one mount higher than the other) you will also need the matching brackets which bolt to the engine.

120Y brackets should do the trick (if you can't get the ones from the ute)
