an a12 with enough work to make use of 45s
id say the l16 would have more torque....but the a12 would give it a whipping

well not if your going to leave it a stock engine with su's

an L18 or L20b that has the same work as the a12 with the 45s fitted will kill the A series

What cam? How many dollars do you want to spend on the A-series?

45's are too large for a streetable A12. Unless you have money to throw around on a A12, go the L16.

oh and i think i forgot to mention that an L18 with a cam and twin 40s or 45s would most likely kill that a series

Then why wouldnt you run the 45's on the L16 when its in?

L18's come in some 720 utes and 180b's.

To fit the early L16, 180b L18 or 200b L20 in your car you will have to redrill dipstick hole in the block and use a stanza or bluebird pickup and sump.

The stanza L16 and bluebird L20 have the sump the correct way around.

What do you plan to do with the car.
drag,race or just street fun.

This past weekend I saw again that the A12 engine must not be under estimated. Went to a friend's bachelor's party Saturday night and my one friend and I drove together there.Me in my standard A12GX and he in a 1999 Opel Astra 1.8 16 valve.
drag race effect, he beats me.Obviously because he has 1.8 litres.BUT, closer to the place there is a stretch of road that is like a mountain pass but without the dangerous sides where you can fall off.A "togue" is the right description for it.Twistie, uphill, downhill and some braking areas.
I gave him a go here. He was infront and me behind.Uphills he pulls out from under me and then when the twistie parts come I start to wind him in and certain points slow down for him.He was not impressed with me at all.
About 23:00 that night upon returning home he just can't pull away from me in twistie bits.At one point I actually passed him. Straight lines he pulls a little from me up until about 120km/h then I keep up with him. I also managed to race against a 316i BMW. same story.Up until 120 he pulls slightly away from me from 120 to the fastest I have raced my GX of 150km/h, I keep up with him and the gap don't increase.Again, this was in racing style conditions not drag racing.Drag racing the L16 will give you better torque.

Long story short. My GX is standard and gives bigger engines a slight go in the right conditions. That is why I asked what you are planning to do with your datto.Poor datsun.I ringed it's neck badly. .

180bs and 720s have L18s, 720 blocks are better for 1200s as they have a dipstick hole at the front of the engine
200bs and bluebirds have L20bs
