My 1400 pu vibrates and wobbles when I brake. The drums are ok as well as the shoes. The shocks are not well, could that be the problem? Im from South Africa and we dont have a lot of tech assist here regarding the older cars.

hmmmm i would have thought that it is the brakes rather than the shocks. If they are shot, then replacing them is a good idea anyways, but i wouldnt think that vibration and wobbling under braking is a symptom of bad shocks.

You say you have checked the drums and shoes, which leads me to think that your vechicle is drum all round, and not a newer 1400 Bakkie.

Uneven adjustment of the shoes can lead to what you are suggesting, but if its disc in the front, then i would lean towards warped discs.
If the drums are out of round then you will also get vibration.

Perhaps some more information about the car and exactly under what conditions this occurs.

I agree with RT. Don't all 1400 bakkies have front disc brakes?

The most common cause of steering-wheel wobble under braking is slightly-warped disc brake rotors.

When tires are starting to seperate, you 'occasionally' can get a shimmy when braking. Although fairly rare, I've come across it at work on customer cars from time to time.
Spin the frt. wheels with the car jacked up. Look for lumps or out of round areas, in both the tread & sidewalls. You could also try swapping tires front to back to see if the problem clears up, or changes. Weak shocks will also cause tire & brake vibrations to increase.
Did you visually check the drums? Or were they checked on a brake lathe?
Good luck

if your shocks are completely shot...then it's the shocks.

Brakes really are only as good as your shocks.
