just wondering if everyone is using the stock seat belts or if uve upgraded to retractable ones.

ive got some bluebird ones, was thinking of cutting out the bolt of the bluey and welding it into the B pillar.....

what do u all think???

I am planning to install seat belts in a similar way in to my 1000. If you can go to the effort of installing retractable belts, then it is always worth it. Having a awsome car is great, but not much good to you if you are thru the windscreen.

Non- self adjusting lap-sash seat belts, whilist better than nothing, unless they are adjusted properly (nobody I know does) are almost worthless, and as they have no shock absorbing ability, can still inflict serious injury, BUT still better than nothing.

In short, upgrading to retactables is the best option if you want to go thru the upgrade.
also remember that if you are modifing any part of the car that is structural (eg pillars) then technically you should get them engineer checked, but the reality is that you wont significantly weaken the structural intregity of the car, and the upgrade will reduce the likly risk more than the risk increasing form any potential intregrity issues.

You can buy new after market, ADR approved, retractable belts from just about any good parts supplier, Bursons, Repco, Coventry ect and they aren't that expensive. "Klipan" Brand I think the part number is 1711 (could be wrong about the number).

i think ill just drill out a hole in the b pillar and weld a nut in there, shouldnt weaken it too much.....

When I had my B10 on the road it was an absolute joy to drive & to punt round the twisties. I just clipped in the original belt, pulled it snug & gave it some suds. Ahhhh, wonderful.

Then I got clever. I bought some retractable belts & replaced the originals. [Lap sash] No more belts in the door opening, on the floor, on the seat, but it was a mistake.

The retractable belts offered no support whatsoever & in the little bucket seats of a 1968 B10 four door I had to maintain a death grip on the wheel just to hold myself in the seat. That just sucked all the fun out of it. I never went back to the originals but always regreted not coming up with a better solution.

Perhaps some Z seats as well?

i adjust my belt every time i get in the car....for some reason its always changing
tried fitting ute ones but they were the most uncomfortable things ever, mainly due to using the stock sedan mount on the roof as opposed to a pillar mount like the utes have

i do alot of seat belts with my line of work so i know how the engineers like them. i replaced all of my seat belts with new ones and cost me stuff all. My work does alot of these type of upgrades for those who live in perth. Shame i work in the other section and cant give discounts for datto drivers.

I just fitted a pair of Klippan seat belts into my ute. $220 for the pair, money well spent. I have the boxes somewhere, I'll post the part # when I find them.
