This is starting to do my head in, so maybe someone can sudjest something else to try.

Problem: Im loosing gear box oil from the gearbox seal on the yoke. It is definately leaking from hear at after a 1 hour run on the freeway the box is half empty. The problem is worse at 3000 rpm cruising.

I have tried 4 seals, so I am confident it is not the seal.

Breather on the box is working.

Had a look at the yoke and ran a dial gauge over it in my lathe and it was 0.5 mm out of round. Spoke to Diff shop (Final Drive)and he doubted that this was causing the problem.

In his opinion the yoke was not going in far enough into the box. I have a Stanza yoke at the oil seal is running at about 60 % of the yokes toatal distance from the end. Should the yoke be further into the gearbox?

Apart from the yoke being on the spline, does it have a bearing support or where is the outer bearing supporting the yoke. (distance into the box from oil seal?)

This is a custom tailshaft made by veem although it is a 2nd hand yoke that I supplied.

With the yoke slipped into position on the gearbox only it is firm and has no noticable movement.

Contimplating making a 10mm spacer to fit at the diff flange to push yoke further into box and I have a 180B tail shaft in the shed so may be able to swap yokes. ???

Cheers

Tailshaft should be about 50mm in at normal load, mark shaft and then remove it to see how much of it is in. If you jack it up to check it jack it under the diff.

Its not leaking through the gear stick boot and running down the the rear shaft?
Or might be a crack in the housing?
Or mabey the drive shaft is too long and it is rubbing out the new seals?

Only saying all this because this is what I had to go through to stop mine from leaking...

on ca box there is a reverse switch and a nuteral switch
in manual tunnel switch on top box might be missing, brocken, leaking?
or oil could be coming up splines in yoke and coming out end of yoke?

and if you dont have enough things to check, there is a bronze bush in the end of the gearbox that holds the yoke straight, it could be worn out and therefore the yoke is moving around to much for the seal to work properly

Ok - it is no the following, checked these:

Oil coming up through splines and out end of yoke, Reverse or Neutral sensor. Gear stick boot should be replaced but is not the problem.

OK - The bronze bush. Had a look in the manual and it does not show it? Only the tool to install it. So I assume the box have to come apart to replace it?

Can the box be split and put back together in the vehicle (Not removing bell housing from engine)Is this part hard to obtain?

Cheers for the help guys.

there is a core plug at the end of the splines in the yoke
the further the yoke is into the bush in the ext housing the more stable and supported it will be
you may be able to to the bush in the car with the right tools
does someone have the specs for the yoke outside diameter maybe its different?
