I have just bought a gazell with a ca18det in it for my 1200 which as a ca20 gearbox behind it i was planning on using it but after driving the car it feels nice while crusing but at hi rpm it dosent shift very well at all and is still a pretty big box bigger than the stumpy so im just going to do the mods and fit a s13 box

From my experience (have used both in 1600s) its a bit like this:
Rare MR30 box is a better fit and doesn't require floor cutting, but is MUCH more expensive (Typ $300-700 to buy one, and it will prob need a $$ rebuild due to age, though you can be lucky)has non-ideal gear ratios for a 4 cyl.

Common Bluebird or Gazelle CA20 box is cheap (ie case of beer cheap) has good ratios and will take plenty of abuse (unless frequent drifting and drag racing is your thing). Still, if you break one, it's pretty quick and easy to swap out. Plus given the cost comparison with MR30 box, you can afford to have 6-8 spares in stock.

r30 boxes arent that hard to find, if your buying from non 1600 circles anyway.

id personally go with the 71c as its a nicer stronger box, i'd get one from an R31 sklyline/pintara or VL commodore as they have the same ratios as the sr turbo box, should be just as strong, are a couple of inches shorter and are dirt cheap. got my one for $150
