All you ever wanted to know about the B210 factory tacho...

There are four different ones for early B210

1. B210 kaku dash (rectangle gauge dash) Sedan DX, Sedan GL
2. B210 maru dash (round gauge dash) GX Sedan & Coupe
3. round GL Coupe tachometer
4. rectangle Tach-Volt meter

These black & white photos are from the B210 Option Parts and Installation book

Quote:
(How to install the tachometer)
* After removing the cluster lid, connect the tachometer wires to the printed-wiring connectors on the meter side, and with the tape winding (black and white wires) of the instrument harness.

1. Tach wires connect to the speedometer terminals
* Earth (black wire)
* Power +12V
* Lamp wires (spade connector)

2. Tach pulse detection BLACK/WHITE wires connect to the wiring harness BLACK/WHITE wires. If the car never had a tacho, locate the wire tape, unwrap it, then pull the two wires apart

I remember that tach.
Took me 6 months and every wrecking yard between Olympia and Bellingham to find one. 😀

I believe we what have here is a B210 round tach on the left, and a B211 on one the right. Note the different wiring. The B211 one looks like a one wire tach. It has a single black/green wire. The B210 one has a pair of black/white wires.

I'm wondering if the one wire type is for electronic ignitions. An EI doubles the number of amps to the two wire tach, as it runs in series with the coil. And installing an EI is known to fry the factory tach.

The newer tach uses a voltage wire, that's the kind I sometimes hear about not working with Electronic Ignition. Never ran into a problem with it

The older tach used a current loop (two B/W wires)

youre right I didn't notice it looks like a Dymo label

the volt-tachometer had the button you press and it read out volts while pressed. it appears to say 'charging' and 'starting'
