Y'all may or may not be interested to know that I actually got off my lazy butt and did some work on Mini-Pearl this last weekend. I had been daunted by the fact that a NAPS-Z automatic won't fit in the four speed tunnel, so the thing has sat for a while. Saturday I decided to get back into it. I started with a cut along the top of the tunnel from the shifter hole to the firewall and then down the sides of the tunnel where it meets the firewall. My thinking was I would "clam shell" this out and only have to fill in a triangular gap on the top. I started to jack the rear of the tranny up and poked a hole in the floor with the shifter mechanism sticking out of the side of the tranny. Oops. At that point I decided the whole side of the tunnel needed to come out. I finished the cut from the firewall back to just below the shifter and made a straight cut down. Now there is a huge gaping hole in the floor, but the transmission fits! Next I temporarily screwed the pernundel (PRNDL) lever to the remains of the floor and fabricated a linkage using old Heim joints, bolts, and square tubing. It seems to work, but I'm not going to jinx it by saying absolutely that it does. After doing a little "happy dance," I moved on to the fuel injection manifold. With the manifold on, the stress bar that we made fits rather nicely and it looks like everything is going to clear the hood. Of course looks are deceiving. The throttle body hits the hood support. I flipped the throttle body upside down and NOW everything fits! So, I have made progress but there is still a whole metric butt load of work to do. I'll try to remember the camera next time I go down so you can all see my progress.
