I have done this conversion a few years ago. The clutch lever that comes out of the A10 4 speed is unusual, it hinges on a different axis than the newer A series 4 speeds. This gave me a few headaches.
The best way to see this is to sit the two gearboxes side by side.
I think the first time I did this conversion I bashed a dent in the firewall to create clearance for the new clutch lever (which I also shortened).
The second time i did the conversion was much tidier, I cut clearance in the firewall/tunnel and had some steel welded in place. I still shortened the clutch lever a bit too, however avoid this if you can it effects the 'feel' of the clutch pedal.
The first time i did this conversion was in a 1000 wagon, the second time was on a 1000 coupe.
