The fumes were fairly strong in the boot of my 1200 ... but the leak turned out to be under the car (it did not smell strong underneath). So before going to all that work, inspect, pull and twist all the hoses that you can reach. Mine did not leak until I twisted it repeatedly, before that it was only slightly damp so I didn't notice the leak. Looking at is closely with a flash light I could see small cracks in the hose.
