Is freestyle motorcross a motorsport? Motorbikes have engines and they compete against each other, so I would say yes. So why wouldn't drifting be classified as motorsport? The cars have engines and the drivers are competing against each other. Sure it Gymnastics, but come on, its like the "ute" argument all over again. Lots of races are won or lost in the pits, Could that be miscontrued as not being motorsport? Anything, in my opinion that has engines and competing involved can and is classified as motorsport.

Now driving your car fast and/or drifting on public roads illegally, outside an organised event is NOT motorsport. Not only is it illegal, its also not a real competition, as not all drivers are aware of the rules, nor is not organised so ALL drivers can compete.
