If the air/fuel mixture is overly rich, it can cause a bru-bre-brap-bru sound when you let off the throttle. To resolve that, simply adjusting the idle mixture screw is not enough. You need to tune the jet and more importantly the air bleeds to get it just right.

So why not just put the Hitachi back on? It didn't rumble ...
