Today I pulled ALL of the wiring/electrical out of the 180SX, ALL 60-70 lbs OF IT! I have searched all over the internet but not found any good write ups of how to hook up an old Datsun (1200, 510, 280Z, et) to a SR20DET electronics-wise. What parts do I need and what parts do I not need?!! I'm fairly competent at doing electrical work, but not quite as involved as this.
The wiring harness splits up a few different ways. Starting from the ECU, one bundle of wires goes out to the engine containing all the stuff to control the engine (coil packs, ignitor, timing control, idle air control, etc). These wires all have to be used/hooked up to the engine, no problem.
Another bundle of about 12 wires out of the ECU goes the other direction and has a separate connector just inches from the main ECU harness connector. From one website I've found, it states:
Yellow/Red stripe: tachometer signal Yellow/Green stripe: Speedometer signal Orange: Ignition start Black: Ground Blue/Green stripe: A/C signal Blue/Black stripe: water temp signal
And then the rest of the remaining wires go to a "check connector" and are not hooked up to anything.
Is this all there is to hook this thing up properly and get it running???? What about the ECU, Fuel pump, and ignition relays and fusible links and charging system, etc???
Do I just use the 1200's electrical system to handle the rest of it, such as modifying/hooking up the old alternator wires to the SR20 connectors? There's got to be more to all this than that.
If anyone knows of a website, or knows themselves what more is involved in the wiring, I'm very keen to hear it!!! I imagine the CA18 isn't much if any different, so I know some of you guys have experience with this...so come on now...out with the info!! Help me out!
