The CA16DE was available only in the sporty EXA model in Australia as far as i know, & these are front drive cars, but turning it around & using it in a rear drive car is simplicity itself. It needs only the various components from a boooring single cam CA series engined, rear drive car & you're away. Check through the tech section in the panel at top left of your screen to find more info.
Is your VVC an SU carburetor, or a Hitachi version. When Datsun used the Hitachi version of the SU carb, they used two of them, not one, so perhaps you can find a way to get some good pictures for us to examine. That would be great.
