How do you adjust steering?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to adjust the steering on a datsun... There is about a foot and a half of play in the steering wheel, thats half a meter for you Aussies. It makes it very hard to drive at high speeds. I have a haynes manual, I just need to know what to do.
