I had the same problem with a ute that I did,I was lucky that although the ute was a pre emission vehicle the guy I bought it off had used a later wiring harness.
The power wire was in the harness that went the wiper motor so that was no real problem, I used to tell my customers (when I still did Honda spares) to cut out the pin in the solonoid.
With the auto choke I agree with the other post that getting a pre emmission carby and also getting it proffessionally rebuilt will make the car run like a dream and to be honest with last two Datsuns that I have rebuilt the engines on I have made sure the carby was done at the same time.
