I stored my motorbike for four years by first, running it on diesel until it stopped, this coated all the carb with oil and protected it. Then poured oil down spark plug hole and then replaced plug.

Four yrs later, removed plug, and kicked it over to pump oil out. Drained diesel from tank and replaced with unleaded. Replaced spark plug. Kicked it over hundreds of times and it started. Ran it till the smoke had stopped from the diesel, and Bob's your uncle!!!

I was recommended this method by my mechanic neighbour.
