There shouldn't be oil spraying about. On a tired engine you will get blowby but it is generally a haze. . .

If you are worried:

Take your rocker cover off

Start the engine

There should be a trickle from between the rockers. It usually takes a while for oil to get up the top in these things so it may need to idle for a while.

To check oil pressure, slowly (that is slowly) undo/crack the oil pressure switch, a squirt will tell you it is all good. You could use a guage, but where is the fun in that?

Bonus Tips:

Don't Rev the engine with the rocker cover off ,unless you want to spend time with degreaser.

Keep fingers etc clear.

Keep one hand on the coil lead while undoing the oil pressure switch, if it pops out, pull your "kill lead"
