Granted, a fat torque curve is always going to be better for curcit racing & general driving than a peaky one, but more power will give you better acceleration if you get the gearing right......
It would be interesting to see a simulation of where the crossover is - i.e engine 1 has 130hp @ 7500, & engine 2 has 200hp @ 7500. how much more torque would engine 1 have to have down low in order to be faster from 0-100 or down the quater given optimal gearing? My guess is that you would have to assume some pretty spastic looking torque curves for the 130hp to ever keep pace.
