I have a 200B (810) manual at home, might be the same sort of wiring, but I know the different Datsun models can be wired up differently.

If it's running...you must have it sort of right.

IGN - 9V to coil (via ballast resistor) + 12V to all other running devices.
START - 12V to coil (bypassing ballast resistor) + 12V to all other running devices + 12V to starter solenoid.

It's hard to help without knowing what you've done so far.

I am leaning towards this not being a problem with your ignition switch mods.
