when hooking up coil. coil is hooked up directly to msd unit no resister between controller and coil you can leave the resister in line that is now hooked up to the control unit to supply ign power feed to turn controller on. it no longer provides power to the coil. the coil now recieves its power thru the controller from the feed to the battery. the resister reduced voltage across the points to keep them from burning out. check the msd wiring guide. I ran a msd unit on my race car for 15 years no resister with bocsh coil, before converting to electromotive cranktrigger
