The alternator wires should be tied to +12v (always on) via a fusible link.

BUT it can be wired to a ignition powered relay to control connection to +12V. This is a good trick on SR20 engines, as they have a problem with draining batteries when not driven for a couple of weeks. The downside is the relay can silently die, leaving you with a flat battery on a long drive.

Fuse should be FUSIBLE LINK 25amp 30amp.
