anything can be legal if you engineer it properly.
though the SR20DET bumps the 1200 up to another catagory of engineering which costs more and i would think would need more work ie. chassie etc.

A CA18DET on the other had can be easily engineered if done properly and with a simple brake upgrade.

Good luck with the conversion.
