Yes, when doing *any* work on a carb, first check the float level.

How do you figure? The stock A-series fuel pumps are about 3-3.5 pounds, and it doesn't increase with RPM, it is regulated by a spring in the pump. By contrast, some electric pumps put out far more pressure, though some are low pressure.
