I found a sheet of proper exhaust gasket material, and have made a nice template for cutting out the gasket. I also chased the threads with a 6mm X 100 tap, and got all new bolts, so I'm reasonably confident that the exhaust leak problem will be solved.

Luckily, I have some good hot rod shops in the area, and was able to find the right gasket material fairly easily.
