Pull the pin & lift the gear lever out. I think that you will find that the gearbox is in neutral & the gear lever has jumped out of the selectors & is in the fifth gear posituon, stuck there on the wrong side of a selector rail.
If it really IS in neutral, then refit the lever & don't be so 'vigorous' with the shift untill after the nationals when you will have more time to see what's worn & needs repair or replacement, to ensure it doesn't happen again.
