I got this idea from ddgonzal. I bought a length of correct diameter fuel filler hose from NAPA auto parts. ( It was $30-40 Canadian.) Then trimmed it to length using the old filler hose as a guide. It was tough getting it to flex into shape over the inner steel filler tube. The result was worth it though. No large fuel leak anymore. If your part of the world doesn't have 'NAPA' stores, I'm sure any parts supplier should be able to supply this type of hose. A farm/agriculture supplier may also carry suitable hose. Good luck.
