Porting a head is not pointless if done properly....

Although you can make it worse if not done right... and bigger is not always better...

Remove the the sharp edges on the short turn (the smallest radius on the bottom of the port about 10-15mm before the inlet valves)... If you are going to increase port size dont remove material from the bottom of the port (mounting face inwards)... raise the top of the port by 2-3mm's going in only about 30-50mm and blend in with the existing port...

May not sound like a lot but it will be an improvement, not a disaster... Your trying to create a venturi just before the valve, to increase air speed, not a big hole with no air speed...
