This is my 56A five speed. Note that the main gearbox case is a pressure die casting while the extention housing is a gravity [sand] casting which is fatter than the four speed one as both reverse & first gear are located in there.
Note also the position of the reverse switch & this is a solid guide to the 5 speed variant.

Both the 4 & 5 speed versions share the same main transmission case & it will have the base model of 56A clearly visible in large characters on the right side. The external ribbing on the case is a dead giveaway to the 56 series as well.
