Hi i do not know the real difference between the two, but gl5 is a more slippery oil and it will cause crunching in the wrong application. I used shell 75w-90 gl5 in my pulsar gtir gear box and it was know good, i then switched to genuine hyundai 75w85 gl4 abd the gear box has been the best its ever been. Hpoe this helps you out.
