This was the secret to the 1000 & 1200's performance.
While we might grizzle about the light & weak nature of the drivelines we must remember that these components were designed to be as light as possible while still retaining enough strength to give long & reliable service with the stock & original engines in these cars.
That the clever Datsun engineers succeeded so well is reflected in the surprisingly large number of survivors all these years down the track.
Just remember that our Datsuns were NEVER known for unreliable mechanicals, yet these so called 'flimsy' components still live on allowing great performance in a car designed from the outset for 'economy'
