They re-set mine flat/straight with no load and also added another long leaf to increase the rate (just slightly shorter than the main leaf with care that it can't foul the eyes at any time).
Has worked well in my coupe racer since the mid 90s.
And therein lies the secret of success. Do it right & you only need to do it once.
