if you havent worked for insurance you really dont know much about how its calculated, of course under 25's may be higher or percived as such but then so is the risk, same for over 50's or whatever demograpic that you may be in.

Older doesnt mean cheaper, i have personally quoted and underwritten policies and quotes in my previous job that saw same car same suburb (big factor there) and different ages where son called for quote then got in dads name then in mums (never realising that although they would have valid polices they wouldnt be worth squat in a claim due to not providing correct information!)

and son(23) was marginally more than the mum (cheapest at 48 yrs) and dad being most expensive at 53yrs.

It was not a one off and have seen multiple scenarios of this. Do some online quotes and you will see through various insurers (shopping insurance is also part of it sometimes to compare) for some people.

Its true shop around, cheapest doesnt mean best as people find out when its time to claim.... so shop around and make an informed choice.


Its not rocket science, and i laugh when i always see net formums bitching about insurance prices... also be careful with online as a lot of companies dont "quote" you online the provide pricing estimates. this means the quote is not underwritten by their guidelines and the pricing is not legally bound until all the information is underwritten and confirmed as correct (same with net quotes but if info is correct pricing is set as it is a quote).

Greeslip rego is a scam as it third party compulsory in vic too... but atleast we dont have to shop around, its set in the rego price... easier although premium is rediciously high any way.
