Yeah well the bonnet, umm.... I'm in some trouble with it. I had a good look at it last night and I'll need to do some considerable filling. It's shame really. Everything else seems okay.
Well the A14 wasn't oiling when I first got her going and I used alot of volts to get her to crank (very tight). So I'd stuffed up by putting the big main bearing on the end instead of the middle (my first complete rebuild) LOTS of crank end float.
Then about a week ago she starts to knock on startup. I pulled the sump off and found a VERY scary amount of metal filings in the sump pan. SO, I located the bad bearing (con rod bearing) and it had snapped it's key, rotated in it's seat and blocked the oil two oil galleys. So the number one bore hadn't been getting it's lubrication.
The crank is okay and so is the conrod, I just hope this is a one off thing.
I'm contemplating a complete strip and rebuild but I'm very tired. And I want to finish the body.
By the way, does anyone know if there is much copper in the bearing shells?
