If you are racing it on the track then I'd suggest building a box around the pickup (about an inch, or more if you can, clearance on all sides of the pickup) with hinged flaps (make sure you hinge them to swing inwards ), it might be a bit more work but the problem with just drilling holes or cutting scallops is they can slow the flow of oil to much and actually momentarily starve the pick up, especially on long sweepers. Also another thing to check is the distance between the pickup and the bottom of the new sump, if it is to high it can also cause momentary starvation. Just my two cents from personal experience.
