The angle that the carby faces down is the same as on the twin carb manifold (I have twin 45's) this is just one of the carbs i am playing with.
I think it is about 10 deg. angle

The length of the runners is somewhat restricted.
I have found that if you were to have the carby paralell to the head, due to clearance of the strut tower, you would have to have very sharp angles on both runners and the air would be 'still turning the corner' as it enters the individual intakes.

The way around this could be to make a steep downward slope into the intakes, however the carby would need to be at quite an angle and i dont think the bonnet would close.

Even with my twin carb set up with manifolds, the carby's belmouths are very close to the strut tower, and they go relatively straight from each bore of the carb into the intake of the head.
If you then have to add two x 90deg. bends into the runner (so as to position carb centralised and parallel) then you are adding twice the thickness of your runner to the overall protrusion of the carb.

I will try to photo what I am describing or sketch it... as how I am describing it may be unclear.
any ideas tho? has anybody seen any other single sidedraught setups to suit oval port heads?
