So I finally bought another 1200 ute in october 08. Flew from Brissy to Sydney and commenced the drive home.
Picture this - It's about 1/4 to 8, pitch black, 20ks south of Tenterfield. Lights are on high beam, i've just come over a slight rise, there's just me and a truck comming towards me and as I flick the beam down I see the biggest roo i've ever seen (a ft. wider than the ute), already dead but lying straight accross the lane.
It happened really quick, my instinct took me slight left with the truck bearing down, and BOOM I smashed into the hind quarters with the right front at probably 95kph.
I was on 2 wheels as the truck passed (horn blaring), then thumped back down to earth. I slowed down, heartbeat going through the roof, did a quick systems check and decided to coast into Tenterfield.
So I pull into the first servo noticing the smell of dead animal and the well off center stearing. As I looked under the car I see the silhouette of the front legs of the roo wedged in the left leaf spring. There was no panel damage and in the dim light I wasn't sure about the extent of stearing damage. After removing bits of roo I continued cautiously home.
Anyway the next day back in Brissy while I was cleaning the bugs off I noticed the front right wheel was 1 and a 1/2 further back in the guard.
So, to make an already long story a little bit shorter, I made a claim and after an investigation, (because it was under 48hrs insured) paid $400 excess to have the lower control arm , stearing rod, castor rod and castor rod bracket amongst others replaced/repaired. In the end I was happy to be alive.
My name is Jason and this is my story (apologies to "The Castle").
