This is typical.

The 14 inch 75 series are too large in diameter, even at only 175.
But this is also dependent on the change in the track width on the front, when people put new wheels on their 1200.

People regularly section (remove a bit from) the floor pan to increase space for bigger wheels on a 1200.

Bashing with a hammer will help, but you really need to be running 60 series tyres when using 14-16inch rims.
