12x5. The Datsun 1200 was designed for 12x4, but the wider wheel allows you to fit wider rubber. This improves both braking and roadholding. You can fit 165 or 175 width tires to a 12x5 wheel.
I use 165/55R12, but it is a rough ride. 175/65R12 would be better but I wasn't able to find them.
Due to limited choices in 12" tires (most companies recently stopped making them), you might consider 13" wheel. 175/60R13 on front and 185/60R13 on back is a good combintation for a 1200.
