I like your thinking but unlike you I am to impatient to stuff around with a modification like that. I unlike others say go for the conversion and good luck to you.
I recently saw an FJ20t in a 1200 ute and it wasn't that tight a fit (not what I was expecting). By the way it ran 11.2 ET's with stock tires and suspension and diff and the rest. Don't
know how much smaller the 1000 engine bay and tunnel is though but good luck.
One of these days after I pay off a house I will undertake a project far bigger than this but unfortunately it is only in drawings at the moment. Can't say much other than the
Australian car show scene will be amazed and think I am crazy.
