From what I can gather the Datsun 1200 GX was sold in NZ and Aussie but came from Japan fully built. They were fairly rare and I have never found any sales figure distinguishing between the models. I don't know about Oz but here in NZ the 1200 4 door sedans were assembled for 3 or 4 years in Auckland. This led to the building of the quick NZ only SSS sedan, which is still popular in motorsport here. NZ never got the 2 door sedan. All the coupes in NZ came in from Japan. There are still far more coupes in NZ than sedans because the assembly procedures were far higher quality and more time was spent protecting the cars from rusting. Some people have suggested that the ocean trip for the panels and parts contributed but it is more likely just bad assembly practises. Apart from my GX coupe I only know of 2 others but there were plenty of GX sedans in the past. It was a luxury (if 1200s can be!!) trim model. NZ got the bare bones 1200 sedan and a Deluxe model as well. I have 3 GX bonnets but it's taken me 15 years to find them. Some people think they look ugly and as a result sadly a lot have been dumped. GX's also got fitted in some cases with stainless trim around the wheel opening which caused bad rusting. Downunder GXs were spared the gaudy 2 tone velour seats and interiors of the Japanese market cars. One car I know has 2 tone red and burgundy seats !!
