You don't have the standard brake setup. All 1979 Datsun 1200 utes came standard with front drums.

The ones you've got are fine for a Datsun 1200. Use a C-clamp, or otherwise compress them. It takes about 5 minutes of constant pressure, or if you crack the brake bleeder at the caliper only a few seconds.
