ahem, and where did the nissan A series engine design ultimately come from?? yes you're right it was from the BMC B series via the early nissan E engine.
There a mini out there with a BMW 16 valve motorbike head on it producing 170hp without the help of forced induction so dont go bashing the brits! Bet theres not one part on a japanese car that fits every model japanese car! the chances of that are more probable with a brit car as they never changed anything
Its a commen misconception that the A series is a copy of the BMC stuff. The J series motors are much closer to the BMC ones. With what they learned from these, nissan redesigned their motor for the A series donks. So apart from being 4cyl, pushrod, in line, and OHV, they don't share much in commen with the BMC motors. Plus they were designed and built in nice new factories, whereas much of the pommy stuff was being built in pre-war factories that still had dirt floors. when my old man was in maelbourne in the 70's he worked with a pommy bloke who had worked at quinten hazel, and told him their factory still had a dirt floor. Probably why their stuff is junk. (Give me 555 ball joints any day)
